Click if you are interested: Work of Recreation

The last couple of 'gigs' i've done have been kind of discouraging. Standing on the side of a room, providing the back ground music for a political function. Nobody's listening, they're talking. Which is good, people should talk to one another, but it kind of makes me think "Am I wasting my time with all of this?"

The experience fueled a couple of things.
1. i figure here on my blog, or other places on the internet i can share my music, and if you want to listen you can, just click the song or the video file. Playing live sometimes i feel like i'm inconveniencing you people. well there's no need for that here. If you don't want to listen to the song you don't have to click.
2. while playing and singing as if nobody was listening i remembered an old song that i'd nearly forgotten about. I wrote it before spark that screams even. I played it for that band, and nobody was interested. Later i'd played it for shawn, and he also didn't show any interest. but i've always really liked the song so i figured, what better place to share it than here.

It was 2002. I'd just returned from Brazil, and started school at UBC. I was living with my sister in a 2 bedroom apartment on Commercial Drive and for some reason I had tonnes of energy to write songs. This one evening i decided to stare into this painting i'd bought in brazil and play guitar until i'd written a song for that painting. It was an age. I would have believed that hanging upside down until i passed out would allow me to tap into something deeper. As i said, it was an age. I only came up with the melody that night, and wrote the words the next day. The words don't really embody the painting but were more about my experience at the time with starting University. Make of it what you will. And click if you are interested.

Peace

Dom's in Victoria for a Month

Hello all,

I've recently run away from Canada's rainiest city to spend some time in Canada's sunniest city, Victoria. One of the band's best friends and biggest supporters, Adam Saab, has asked me to help him on his campaign in the upcoming Provincial election and i figured the idea sounded so crazy and fun that I couldn't possibly pass it up.

I'm taking this opportunity to do as many random acoustic shows and appearances as possible so if you're from victoria come out and see me and we can share a drink or two. I've already locked down two performances this week.

Thursday April 23rd at Green Party Headquarters (899 Fort Street) at 7 PM. Elizabeth May will be doing some form of book release and i'll be playing songs.

Friday April 24th Adam Saab is celebrating his birthday at Solstice Cafe (592 Pandora Avenue) and again i'll be playing a set of acoustic songs by myself starting at 2:30 PM.

The specifics are also listed on our myspace page (www.myspace.com/thepaintedbirds) under "shows".

IF anyone knows any open mic spots as well, i'm looking for them in the Victoria area. Let me know.

Peace and love

Dom
